Boyne Currach Centre focuses on the reconstruction and ancestral voyages of ancient skin currachs, dating back 5,000 years, to the time of Newgrange, when sea travel, using wicker boats expanded and flourished along the Western Atlantic coast.
Our exhibition includes many ancient skin crafts including our centrepiece, the 34 foot skin currach, presently being built and documented on film.
Also audio visual displays of their history and voyages and hands-on demonstrations of materials and methods used relevant to that era, and the Palaeolithic crafts associated with its construction. Our project goals are:
• To provide the visitor with a unique, personal and educational experience.
• To create and maintain employment for people in the area.
• To work in conjunction with other tourism providers in the area in servicing a larger market.
