Archeologiehuis Zuid-Holland (NL)

The building is a (re)construction of the Roman so called Villa Rijswijk, excavated in the 1960 by prof. Dr Bloemers, University of Amsterdam. The (re)construction is rebuilt on a scale of 120%. Inside we present more than 450 findings, films, multimedia and hands-on activities about the archaeological history of South Holland from the Mesolithic up to the Middle Ages. The Archaeological Workgroup Netherlands (AWN) branch Zuid-Holland has its office in this Villa Rijswijk as well.
After an introductory film about archeology in South Holland, visitors can then view more than 600 finds and their stories.
The prehistory, Roman and Middle Ages of South Holland are addressed to the VOC. There are feel tables, touch screens, examination tables, assignments and movies. All this gives a fascinating overview of history.
In the House of Archaeology the following are located:
• Provinciaal Archeologisch Centrum
• Archeologische Werkgemeenschap Nederland
• Romeins Museum Alphen aan den Rijn
